Why You Should Boycott Groupon
On January 22, CNN Money posted an article stating that Groupon, the extremely popular daily deal site, has suspended all gun-related deals.
It took me awhile to stumble upon this bit of information, which is surprising considering I’m such a big Groupon person.
Groupon has never sold guns, and I’ve never seen a deal for retail shops that sell them, but they did frequently offer deals for CHL courses, range activities, and the like.
Not only have they decided to stop offering these types of deals, they even cancelled a currently active deal for CHL classes offered by Central Texas Gun Works in Austin. Understandably, the owner, Michael Cargill, was shocked and upset that Groupon terminated his deal, with no prior warning, despite the fact that he had a contract with them.
Cargill has called for a boycott and may pursue legal action.
Obviously, Groupon has bought into the liberal agenda and taken a stand against activity related to the Second Amendment. Not only that, but many of now suspended deals were related to teaching people how to properly and safely operate firearms.
Contact Groupon and Take a Stand
When I learned about this, I immediately sent them an email to let them know how I felt about the decision and to inform them that I would be ‘suspending’ my Groupon purchases unless or until they changed this policy. This is the response that I received.
Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us.
We understand that this is a sensitive topic, and that some of our customers may not agree with our choice to pause the promotion of firearm-related deals. Groupon has always aimed to offer a diverse range of products and services to meet the various tastes and interests of our subscribers. However, at this time, enough customers and merchants have voiced their opinions that we believe a hiatus is warranted.
Please note that we have never sold guns, and this hiatus only applies to firearm-related deals including shooting ranges, clay pigeon shooting, and concealed weapons training classes. We have not made a final determination regarding this category — we are simply taking a break and may reevaluate in the future.
Per your request, I’ve unsubscribed this email address. You will stop receiving Groupon promotional emails within 48 hours.
We genuinely appreciate your opinion and the feedback you’ve given us. I’ll be sure to share your comments with the appropriate people.
Groupon Customer Support
I have always LOVED Groupon, but I refuse to support a business whose actions discourage gun safety and discriminate against legal gun owners & businesses.
If you’re a supporter of the Second Amendment and are concerned at how our Constitutional rights are being stolen away from us at an ever-increasing pace, I strongly urge you to cease doing business with Groupon.
Contact Groupon Support and let them know that you will no longer support them if they are going to punish firearms-related businesses and law-abiding gun owners.
Please note that if you actually close your account, you will no longer have access to your already purchased deals. If you have none that are unused, that isn’t an issue, but if you have some that you have not yet redeemed, you may want to ask them to just remove you from all communication and then not do any further business with them.
Unless we take a stand with our wallets, this trend is likely to snowball in the coming months and years.
